Death of a mouse....

Joe went out for a run. Conveniently.

I heard the mouse, squeaking... he had finally been caught.

I thought, Hooray!! He's alive. We can humanely release him into the wild and have a glorious glorious day.

Dad gave me a little attitude. But, being the good father he is, he came down with his gloves.... put Willie into his car and off we set for mother nature.
Yeah.
It didn't go as planned.
It was actually horrific.
Because it was a glue trap and I didn't know.
The poor little guy was suffering.

My dad put him out of his suffering. But my question is, why do we get to be the judge? Is death merciful? How does one know?
I feel very torn about the incident.

And of course... there is another mouse alive in my kitchen.

RIP Howie

Sweet little fish. He lasted quite awhile! Last night before bed, it was a miracle. Christina was talking to Howie and telling him what a good fish he was and that she did a good job choosing him. 3 hours later he died.

I was talking with Joe telling him we should wake up the girls so they wouldn't find their pet dead. Christina woke up and said, "Is Howie dead? I could just feel that something was wrong."

There were tears. But for me the beautiful part was seeing the care they took in burying him. They dug a grace and very tenderly arranged rocks and a heart shape surrounding that. Christina wrote a speech for him that was lovely.

I guess the lesson of don't take life for granted is being echoed nice and clear for us this week.

Rest in peace Howie. We know you are in heaven, free of pain and with your family. We'll see you again buddy. Thanks for the happiness you brought to our family.

Fish... Take 3

Meet Howe. (Name from Bailey School Kids Book Series) We also have 2 friends to keep him company... golden snails named Dorothy and Isabella. We also made a couple upgrades in hopes of Howe lasting longer.... we invested in a heater and a magnet wall cleaner.

RIP Percy

We saw it coming, but no one wanted to believe it. Percy had developed white spots. He had taken to lying by his little plant.

I must say, Percy was a good fish. When you came to look at him, he'd always swim right up to you and look back. They girls were really sad. There were a lot of tears this morning.
However, I'm grateful they can experience things like this.

When asked to speak a few words at his burial Eli kept on saying "We should... we really should..."
as in we should really get another fish.
We said a prayer and laid our little friend's body to rest.
I even shed a couple tears.

Death is not the end. We know we shall meet our little Percy again.
And we know our Percy is happy in heaven with Joe.

Percy the Fish

Thanks to Aunty Ramya, we have a new family member!!!
Everyone was very excited to finish up dinner and head over to Petco.
She hooked us up with everything!!!!
Thanks Aunty Ram and crew!! Most. Thoughtful. Gift Giver. EVER!!!!

I do have to mention, the above blur of Christina. This was the majority of pictures because everyone was jumping up and down with excitement!!

We were going to have Percy downstairs but decided it might get too cold. The girls love having him in their room. Other names that were thought of were Aphrodite and Buttercup.

Eli loves quote "Percy Fish" too!

The Fam and The Pet.

Thanks again Ram!! Hopefully we don't kill it.
